Lalande de Pomerol

 

A small appellation, you might say, in the shadow of its prestigious neighbour Pomerol... But Lalande de Pomerol is definitely worth a visit. There are about 160 Châteaux here, which have the ideal terroir for beautiful Merlot wines structured with Cabernet Franc.

I personally highly recommend this event. You can visit some very prestigious wineries this way and taste wines you wouldn't otherwise buy. Even more interestingly, you will discover smaller wineries whose wines are simply outstanding, and at a very reasonable price. The merchants don't usually offer them. Either because the winemaker doesn't want to sell through a negociant (wholesaler), or the winery itself is little known.

Portes Ouvertes are usually held in Lalande de Pomerol on the penultimate weekend in April. In 2023 it was the weekend of 22 and 23 April.

And in the individual chateaux, it was not just tours and wine tasting. Some of them also offered the possibility to eat directly at their winery or provided a food truck.
